How long did it take your toddler to “forget” they were an only child after baby #2 comes?
Question by mommy of a boy and a girl<3: How long did it take your toddler to “forget” they were an only child after baby #2 comes?
I’m having baby #2 in about 2 1/2 weeks and my son will be 19 months old. I’m a stay at home mother and my son is very attached to me. I feel like he’s going to resent me when the new baby comes because I’ll be nursing her alot in the early months and probably not going to be able to give my son the same attention that he’s used to. So when did your toddler “forget” they were the only child and adjust to sharing time with mommy?? Thanks!

I would start setting him up with play dates as soon as possible. I know it’ll be a hassle with a newborn, but then he won’t only look to Mommy for a playmate or attention. It’ll also be good for him learning how to share. Have you been reading a lot of “you’re going to be a big brother” books to him? That will help, too. Good luck!
(Sorry, I don’t have any “my toddler” stories – I only do incredible amounts of research on various subjects and baby-sit my friend’s toddler.)
