How to stop toddler “raspberrying”?
Question by Maybee: How to stop toddler “raspberrying”?
How do we stop our 3yr old from “raspberrying”? It was funny at 6 mo and though she stopped, she recently started doing it again At 6 mo I thought it was a precursor to language. But recently she started doing it again. It’s not funny now. The adults in her life frown and say No Patty, that’s not nice. OR No Patty we don’t spit here. That’s not polite. She then tries it a couple more times and then notices people are ignoring her. Any better tips on how to stop this? I’ve had suggestions on doing time out, not so sure about that.

I had to laugh at this question because my 1 year old loves to do this. I’m pregnant and he especially loves to do it to my belly. I guess because we do it to his. It is way more annoying when he does it in the air or at me because I have glasses and I usually have to clean them after. I started getting a cold wet washcloth and putting it to his mouth when he does it. I got this idea because he hates to have his mouth wiped after meals. It ticks him off enough he usually stops or at least gets away from me. It doesn’t bother me so long as I don’t get spit on. I let him raspberry on me just not at me or others so maybe he can get his fix that way and learn not to spit. Hope that helps.
