how to tell when the baby “dropped” ?
Question by chocolatealmondcake: how to tell when the baby “dropped” ?
hello. i tried looking this up first but am still not satisfied with the answers. so..
my friend saw me today and said “Wow! you dropped” and i was like i have no idea! i described what i had been feeling lately…
when i am sitting, it kind of hurts and is a little hard to breathe. (but i read that after it drops you can breathe) especially when i lean forward to tie my shoe or something…
but i have been having a lot of weird pressure on what feels like my bladder. it feels like a random sharp sting occasionally and actually hurts. my dr. said it was the baby’s head hitting it. (she said that last wednesday, another appointment this thursday so ill ask her) she said his head is down, im 2 cm D and 60% E. im 36 weeks now. First child. also i’ve noticed my BH getting stronger and more frequent in the past few weeks. sometimes i cringe because it actually kind of hurts.
curious.
i don’t want him to come premature or anything, but how long you think i have?
yeah i’m a little ancy… haha… i’ll just play the waiting game for a few more weeks. (like i have a choice anyway right.) i just like to know when important things are going to happen. i do not like the uncertainty of not knowing when all this is gonna go down!
oh, sorry. BH = Braxton Hicks

Okay, I have been seeing “BH” in other questions, what does it mean?
And my baby never dropped. Not to my knowledge anyway. My torso is so short that I don’t really think it could go anywhere. Women with longer torsos do appear to have “dropped” though. It usually happens in the last month. It’s just the baby getting closer to being ready to go.

I’m in the same boat. I’m 38 weeks now and having lots of pressure in my pelvis…almost a period like feeling. I also get the “stinging” feeling when she pushed down. I never really new that she”dropped” until people started saying…oh you’ve dropped…same as you. But I can actually feel her head down in my pelvis now…ready to go. I was freaking out last night because AI really thought she was coming. Nausea, constant pelvic and hip pain…but it subsided. Might be the next couple of days? I wouldn’t worry…you’re at 36 weeks….and my doctor told me that the baby is good to go anytime after 37 weeks. Get lots of rest and good luck!
For one of the answers above…BH…is Braxtin Hicks

LOL, you know what, I think that’s just something people say just for the sake of saying. But if your baby’s head is engaged, it should feel like pressure, sort of like having to go to the bathroom. That’s what it felt like to me, anyway.

well, I carried really high during my entire pregnancy, and then they day I went into labor (my due date, ironically), my son dropped and I watched him fall over a 20 minute period. It was really weird to see. But yeah, when the baby drops, you can suddenly breathe so much easier. I joked with my hubby, “wow…so this is what oxygen is like, huh? It’s nice.” haha But I lost my mucus plug the day before, and my son was born almost 24 hours after labor started. You will usually know when he has dropped. It’s one of those things…you’ll be that way with labor too. Sometimes you have BH that you think might be labor but you aren’t sure. When it really is labor, you’ll know. haha My mother claims that she actually heard my brother hit her pelvis, but I think it more likely that she felt it.
