A Young Father’s Blog

My friend Rob has started a new blog to chronicle his and his wife’s experiences raising their two daughters.  Their youngest has a rare genetic disorder so they have a challenging road ahead of them as they support her in her development and as they continue to try and learn more about 15q24, a micro-deletion on chromosome 15.    Luckily, they have identified the root cause of her developmental delays and are making great strides.

Despicable Me – A Mom’s Review

July 24, 2010 :: Posted by - Amy :: Category - General

Today I took my two boys, 5 and 4, to see Despicable Me.  They like gadgets so I figured they would enjoy it.  I had originally planned on just taking them to the two dimensional version, but the 3D version fit our time frame better.  I was worried that the 4 year old would not be able to keep the 3D glasses on for the entire movie.  But much to my surprise, he made it through most of the movie without taking them off for any length of time.

It’s a cute story, although I found it a little slow at first.  But the interaction between the little girls and Gru, the anti-hero of the film, redeemed the rest of the film.  I have to admit I got a little teary eyed toward the end, but I”m a big softy for that kind of thing.

There were lots of laughs for my boys and I even found myself chuckling from time to time.  The “Minions” were big hits with my little guys.

This worked well for my kids and it kept their attention the whole time.  The 3D effects were nice and usually not too gratuitous, although there were a few shots that seemed to be the animators screaming “Look at what we can do in 3D!”

I would imagine that once this movie is released on DVD, that we will be seeing a lot more of Gru and his Minions around our house.  Lucky for me, I enjoyed the movie, and will probably still enjoy it for at least the first ten times I have to re-watch it with the kids.
